Turn an ordinary wall into a rustic accent wall on a budget

April 6, 2016

We were going to make one of the walls in our eat-in kitchen a very simple accent wall.  My wife saw a few posts on Pinterest and decided she wanted wood planking as the accent in lieu of painting it a different color.  After some research, and some sticker shock at how expensive the wood, or the “stick on” variety of that stuff is, it was back to the drawing board.

One day were walking through a home improvement store and browsing around the wall coverings.  We found the wall paneling in the picture to the right.  This stuff came in 4 ft x 8 ft sheets, and ran around $30 per sheet.  Using liquid nails, and some brad nails, I put this up, ensuring to line up the seams so look invisible.  I also used grey caulk in the joints to make the seams blend in.

I think it turned out awesome, and definitely adds a little bit of character to a fairly boring kitchen.
